Jury ends 2nd day deliberating border drowning (AP)

HOUSTON ? A jury has ended its second day of deliberations over whether a Department of Homeland Security pilot lied about flying his helicopter low over two would-be illegal immigrants in the Rio Grande before one of the men drowned.

Jurors are to resume deliberating Friday.

Department of Homeland Security pilot James Peters is charged with four counts of making false statements to authorities investigating the 2005 drowning.

The jury said Thursday it had decided on one count against Peters but was unable to reach a verdict on the others. The judge told the jury to continue deliberating.

Officials say the force of the turbulence from the helicopter blades made an immigrant lose his grip on an inner tube.

Lawyers for Peters argued the pilot didn't lie to investigators.
